The UN Deputy Envoy further called on all citizens and all communities to play their part in crime prevention and also in fighting every form of crime. "The police alone cannot do this work without the help and support of all. You have a part to play," she urged. "You can prevent crime by taking care of yourself and your property, and by reporting any suspicious activities in your community."
Justice Minister Philip Banks also urged residents of all communities to report crime, "We are setting up a system for you to easily report crime without putting your lives in danger." He disclosed that his ministry was working towards strengthening the communication link between the various communities and the police, to ensure that crimes could be reported promptly and without hindrance.
The Inspector-General of Police, Ms. Beatrice Munah Sieh further stressed the need for various communities to report crime. "Report anyone who is involved in crime, even if that person is your relative; if you conceal such information about a relative, we will not be able to rehabilitate such person involved in the commission of crime."
The ceremony was attended by representatives of 53 communities involved with the Community Police Forum in Montserrado County. The Forum's Chairman, Mr. I. Nyenatic Kaffey assured the Police of their fullest support in curbing crime. "We will do everything possible to make Liberia a crime-free society. No one who commits a crime will be allowed to go free, irrespective of their position or status," he said. Also present were the Acting UNPOL Commissioner, Mr. Idris Ibrahim, LNP Deputy Inspector-General for Administration, Ms. Asatu Bah-Kenneth, and other senior officers of the LNP and UNPOL.
During the ceremony, residents of the West Point Township performed cultural displays, dramas, and songs, and a football match was played between two teams from West Point Township and Paynesville, with the players and spectators displaying key anti-crime messages on the importance of reporting crime to the police.
