Road repairs to cost N2 billion in Nigeria (09/11/07)

The Rivers State government has set aside the sum of N2 billion for the repairs and resurfacing of all bad roads within the Port Harcourt metropolis, and the entire state.

The State Governor, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who made the announcement while inaugurating a 14-member taskforce on Road Rehabilitation and Maintenance, tasked the committee to ensure that roads in the state were in good condition all year round.

Amaechi said the people of the state would henceforth hold the committee responsible for any bad road in the state, noting that excuses for the rainy season as reason for non-repair of road, would not be tolerated any longer.

The governor, who advised the committee members to ensure maximum value for every naira spent, equally told them to ensure due process in their operations.

He expressed the hope that as professionals, they would perform their assignment creditably and wished them well in the task ahead.

In his remarks, the chairman of the committee, Mr. Chidi Wihioka, thanked Governor Amaechi for the confidence reposed in them, and promised that the committee would live up to expectation.
