Angolan Government to invest millions to build power line (05/11/07)

The Angolan government has recently approved the project of building a 220kv power transmission line between Gabela and Quileva as well as the construction of corresponding infrastructure.

The government's resolution also approves the construction contracts for the project worth of over 77.78 million euro (about 116 million U.S. dollars) and another contract of service rendering technical assistance and inspection worth of 4.324 million dollars.

According to the resolution, the Angolan government has authorized the Ministry of Energy and Water to award the referred contracts to the ABB-ELTEL consortium for the construction work and the firm ENGIMAIS for the technical assistance and inspection task.

In the past five years since the 27-year civil war ended, the Angolan government has made greater efforts to rehabilitate infrastructure which was almost destroyed during the war.
