China sends medical team to DR Congo (15/10/07)

Four Chinese medical workers, part of a 17-member medical team, left for the Democratic Republic of Congo from North China's Hebei Province.

Earlier, two members had already flown there in June 2006. The rest is expected to be there by the end of this year, said Hu Chuntang, head of the foreign affairs office of the Provincial Health Department of Hebei province.

Hebei is in responsible for sending 17 medical workers to DR Congo this time.

Before their departure, the medical workers have gone through a half-year training on foreign language and knowledge of foreign affairs, Hu said.

Aged between 32 to 60, the 17 team members are anaesthetists, surgeons, gynecologists, accoucheurs, physicians, paediatricians and herbalist doctors.

This is the 13th medical team Hebei has dispatched to DR Congo since 1973.
