Banks urged to work with China (16/05/07)

Zimbabwean and African financial institutions should increase their co-operation with Chinese financial institutions to enhance the continent's trade and growth, which has lagged behind other continents.

Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe chief executive and African Development Bank board member Mr Charles Chikaura made the call while addressing participants to the ADB and Chinese Development Bank annual conference in China recently. "Co-operation between our institutions and Chinese financial institutions should serve to reverse this trend (small share of global trade finance to Africa), and make more finances available to facilitate the expansion of trade between Africa and China." he said

African development and trade finance institutions such as the ADB and the African Export and Import Bank should facilitate co-operation between China and the continent through sharing knowledge with their Chinese counterparts about the African market.
