NGO spends USD six million on children's assistance (01/04/07)

 

Six million dollar was granted this year for the implementation of projects to support children in the provinces of Huambo, Kwanza Sul, Uíge and Zaire, in a promotion of the international Non Governmental Organisation, Save the Children.

 
 
ANGOP learnt from the representative of Save the Children in Angola, John Grabwoski, who said that the amount, donated by some UN Agencies such as UNICEF, United Nations Programme for Development (UNPD) and USAID, aimed at executing projects in the fields of education, health and protection against all kinds of abuse and discrimination against children.

Apart from the distribution of school materials, the donation will be invested in the construction of eight primary schools in the interior regions of the referred provinces.

The project also includes the construction of two health centres in the coastal Kwanza Sul province, as well as the acquisition of mosquito nets for malaria prevention and the training of health staffs of some units close to the communities on the prevention of HIV/AIDS.

The organisation continues supporting Governmental programmes in the fight to HIV/AIDS, upgrading advisers and sensitising official, as well as distributing information material, foreseeing to curb this disease which continues claiming many lives
