Mineral exploration to start next week (23/12/06)

Mineral exploration in the east will begin next week, writes Moses Mulondo.

According to a statement from IBI Corporation, the company that will do the exploration, the targeted Busia lands are part of the regional Greenstone Belt, which is found in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

The belt has a number of gold mines and there are operations by many international producers.

Canada-based IBI will do the work with a team from the geo-physical aerial survey minerals identification programme. The programme is funded by the World Bank and is being carried out by the Government.
