Micro-dam constructed in Eritrea (19/08/08)

 

A micro-dam has been constructed in the Halib Mentel administrative area, Elabered sub-zone, at a cost of over 1.6 million Nakfa through the collaboration of the Anseba regional administration, the public and partners.

 
 
The manager of the project, Eng. Bereket Kidane, indicated that the micro-dam with a capacity of holding about 200,000 cubic meters of water is 7 meters wide and 9 meters deep.

It would make due contribution in providing potable water supply to the local inhabitants, in addition to facilitating irrigation farming on the nearby 50 hectares.

Reports indicated that the inhabitants who used to travel long distance to fetch water that was not up to standard took active participation in the undertaking.
