Peter Geets
Chair, Logistics Sub-Group
Inter-Agency Working Group on Emergency Preparedness (IAWG)
 
Peter joined CRS’ Emergency response team in October 2007 and participated in interventions in North Kivu (DRC), Kenya during the post election violence and Myanmar after Cyclone Nargis. He chairs the Inter Agency Working Group on Emergency preparedness for Central and East Africa (IAWG), Sub-group logistics. He is CRS’ point person for pre-positioning of supplies and, as such, is involved in Inter agency cooperation for setting up joint supply chains.

Prior to joining CRS, Peter was working for International Medical Corps as deputy Global Logistics Manager and participated in emergency interventions and trainings in Yogyakarta, Liberia, Kenya, South Sudan and Uganda. He assisted in the setup of a streamlined Global Logistics reporting system and participated in the evaluation and testing of purpose made software (Helios).

Before joining the NGO world, Peter was working for 9 years for an International Logistics support company, active mainly in the support of United Nations peacekeeping missions, NATO, the US Army, the Italian army and oil companies. He worked as a Project Manager in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Jordan & Iraq, Kazakhstan, Sierra Leone, Albania and Bosnia and was responsible for overall management and logistics support within mentioned country projects.

Prior to this, Peter was a contracting and procurement officer for 4 years for the Belgian army in which capacity he participated in the NATO mission IFOR in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1995 to 1997. Between 1987 and 1993, Peter was an officer in an armored battalion in the Belgian army. He has always been used to be amongst the first in a new mission and is very familiar with setups and interventions. Peter has a BA in Law and followed several courses on procurement and is an IATA certified rations inspector.
